Photoreceivers for 40G and 100G Networks

Photoreceiver Family

Photoreceivers are optoelectrical converters consisting of a photodiode chip, a transimpedance amplifier, a bias network and a power supply filter. They are packaged in robust, hermetically sealed packages. Different packages and various amplifier types create a product family fitting various applications.

43 Gbit/s DPSK Balanced Photoreceiver

The balanced photoreceiver module BPRV2125(A) is a differential front-end for 43 Gbit/s DPSK-applications featuring high differential gain of typically 2800 V/W and is available as AC- or DC-coupled version. The photoreceiver contains two waveguide-integrated pin-photodiodes (PD) on a single chip and a limiting amplifier (LA) within one small form factor SMD-package. The limiting amplifier provides a differential output voltage swing of typ. 600 mV. The receiver is suited for DPSK and DQPSK applications at 40G and 100G with rates between 20 and 56 GBaud.

Integrated 43 Gbit/s DPSK Receiver

The integrated DPSK receiver module IDRV consists of a balanced photoreceiver and an integrated delay-line interferometer (DLI). The IDRV is a differential front-end for 43 Gbit/s DPSK-applications featuring high differential gain of typically 2400 V/W. The two output ports of a phase-tunable DLI are coupled into two single chip waveguide-integrated pin-photodiodes (PD). Signal gain is obtained using a differential amplifi er with limiting output stage. The limiting amplifi er produces a typical differential output voltage swing of 550 mV. The receiver is therefore well suited for phase modulated OC-768/ STM-256 system operation.

43 Gbit/s Dual Balanced Receiver

The dual balanced receiver module QPRV is a small form-factor, optical front-end for 40 Gb/s DQPSK applications. It has a bend-insensitive ribbon fi ber optical interface and a co-planar RF interface. The receiver contains four waveguide-integrated pin-photodiodes (PDs) and two linear transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) delivering a typical differential output swing of 800 mVpp. The transimpedance of each TIA is manually adjustable to meet linearity specifications over a large optical input power range. For both the in-phase and quadrature inputs the receiver offers peak level monitors for convenient feedback to the demodulator phase control circuitry.

43Gbit/s High Bandwidth Differential Photoreceiver

The photoreceiver module DPRV2021A is a differential front-end with a high bandwidth of 40GHz and differential gain of typically 400 V/W. The receiver is well suited for OC-768 / STM 256 system operation up to 43 Gbit/s.

43 Gbit/s High Bandwidth Photoreceiver

The photoreceiver module XPRV2021(A) is a single-ended front-end with a high bandwidth of 40 GHz and a gain of typically 150 V/W.  The receiver is well suited for OC-768 / STM 256 system operation up to 43 Gbit/s.  The photoreceiver contains a waveguide-integrated PIN-photodiode and a transimpedance amplifier with limiting output buffer. An integrating feedback loop optimizes the performance in the frequency and time domain with respect to different optical input power.
